Chief Executive of FutureLearn

Simon is Chief Executive of FutureLearn, the social learning platform and first UK-based provider of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). Simon founded the Open University-backed initiative in December 2012 which has quickly established itself as a high quality platform in the emerging global online learning landscape. FutureLearn now has over 10 million registered learners worldwide and back in May 2015 claims to have delivered the biggest single run of a MOOC ever, with a record of more than 440,000 people signing for a course from the British Council. FutureLearn has won numerous awards and continues to forge ahead with new innovations in online education, including the development of micro-credentials and for-credit courses. Simon was a key figure in the development of the BBC’s online and digital services and a pioneer in taking its media brands and content online. After leaving the BBC, Simon led a number of digital strategy and product development projects in the TV, radio and publishing sectors, working as an advisor to companies including Random House, UKTV, Lime Pictures, United Business Media and Phaidon Press.
